Borealia was named by Maksimova (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l D Emsi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. It is not extant. Its type is Borealia laevis.
It was assigned to Dechenellinae by Chlupac (1994); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
