Araripenymphes was named by Menon et al. (2005). Its type is Araripenymphes seldeni.
It was assigned to Nymphidae by Menon et al. (2005), Engel and Grimaldi (2008), Shi et al. (2015), Myskowiak et al. (2016); and to Cratosmylidae by Makarkin et al. (2017), Archibald and Makarkin (2020), Lu et al. (2022), Khramov and Nam (2024).
