Piltonia was named by Goldring (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Tour-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetidae by Hahn et al. (1996), Jell and Adrain (2002); to Phillipsiidae by Brezinski (2017); and to Phillipsiinae by Brezinski (2025).
