Taxonomy

Eocranothrips was named by Bagnall (1926). Its type is Melanothrips annulicornis.

It was assigned to Melanthripinae by Schliephake (1999), Schliephake (2003); to Aeolothripidae by Mound (1968), Shmakov and Perkovsky (2009); and to Melanthripidae by Ulitzka (2017), Mound and Hastenpflug-Vesmanis (2021).
