Proetus (Pribylia) was named by Erben (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg Sepkoski's reference number: 421,1106]. Its type is Proetus inaequicostatus.

It was reranked as Pribylia by Jell and Adrain (2002) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Proetus by Erben (1951); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tropidocoryphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
