Taxonomy
Cretoplatypalpus americanus was named by Grimaldi and Cumming (1999). Its type specimen is MCZ 6914, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Cedar Lake (MCZ collection), which is in a Campanian terrestrial amber in Canada.
