Uromystrum was named by Whittington (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u O Llvi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 795].

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Bathyuridae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Bathyurellinae by Fortey and Bruton (2013).
