Handlirsch considered Dictyophlebia protogaea to be a nomen nudum, although Goldenberg does provide a description: "the longitudinal vein course is equivalent of the American genera Chauleodes and Corydalis, making the construction of the venation a strange transition from the Sialidae to the dragonflies." This is the species Goldenberg named Dictyoneura libelluloides in 1854, and D. protogaea does not appear to have been used as valid since 1900, making it a nomen oblitum (if not a nomen nudum).

Taxonomy
Dictyoneura libelluloides was named by Goldenberg (1854). Its type specimen is Naturhist. Ver. Bonn, 4, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Gersweiler, which is in a Westphalian D terrestrial horizon in the Auerswald coal seam Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Titanophasma libelluloides by Scudder (1885); it was recombined as Lithomantis libelluloides by Brongniart (1894).
