Heterozostera polychlamys was named by Kuo (2005). It is extant. Its type specimen is H Kirkman (CSIRO 1751; CMM 260, 261) (holo: CANB, iso: L, MEL, PERTH)., a multi organs. Its type locality is Flinders Bay, which is in a Holocene coastal horizon in Australia.
