Entomocerus mirus was named by Christiansen and Pike (2002). Its type specimen is CAS 4A, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Cedar Lake (CNC 1963 collection), which is in a Campanian terrestrial amber in Canada.
