Taxonomy
Anthicus neli was named by Arillo and Ortuño (1997). Its type specimen is MCNA 7435, an exoskeleton, and it is a mold. Its type locality is Izarra (MCNA collection), which is in a Miocene lacustrine claystone in Spain.
