Taxonomy
Gigantoberis liaoningensis was named by Huang and Lin (2007). Its type specimen is NIGP 133705, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Western Liaoning (NIGP collection), which is in a Barremian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Yixian Formation of China. It is the type species of Gigantoberis.
