Heliopyge was named by Haas and Mensink (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 983]. It is not extant. Its type is Asteropyge (Comura) helios.

It was reranked as Neocalmonia (Heliopyge) by Haas (1970).

It was assigned to Neocalmonia by Haas (1970); to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Acastidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Asteropyginae by Van Viersen and Vanherle (2018).
