Hyrokybe was named by Lane (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m S Wenl-u Sepkoski's reference number: 651].

It was assigned to Acanthoparyphinae by Adrain (1998); to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheiruridae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
