Platycalymene was named by Shirley (1936).

It was assigned to Flexicalymeninae by Siveter (1977); to Calymenidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002).

Synonyms

Flexicalymene (Sulcocalymene) was named by Baldis and Pothe (1995). Its type is Flexicalymene (Sulcocalymene) trapezoidalis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Platycalymene by Edgecombe et al. (1998).

It was assigned to Flexicalymene by Baldis and Pothe (1995).
