Proromma was named by Lane (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-l S Ldov-m Sepkoski's reference number: 735]. It is not extant. Its type is Proromma bregmops.

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheiruridae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
