Pseudocryphaeus was named by Pillet (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. It is not extant. Its type is Phacops michelini.

It was assigned to Acastidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002).
