Reedops

Artiopoda - Phacopida - Phacopidae

Taxonomy
Reedops was named by Richter and Richter (1925) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi-u D Emsi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 421,1106 replacement name for Reedia Wedekind 1911]. Its type is Phacops bronni.

It was reranked as Phacops (Reedops) by Alberti (1969).

It was assigned to Phacops by Alberti (1969); to Phacopidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Phacopinae by Sandford (2005).

Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. C. Sandford 2005Exoskeleton elongate. Cephalon relatively narrow (width about 0.65- 0.75 times length), maximium glabella width about two thirds times maximum cephalic width. Glabetla moderately to strongly inflated, overhanging or projecting far forwards over anterior border. $2 and $3 shallow to indistinct. Preoccipital ring prominent or slightly depressed below level of glabella anterior to L1. Eyes of medium to large size (length 0.25-0.4 times cephalic length). Preglabellar furrow very shallow to indistinct. Vincular furrow deep and very weakly notched laterally, very shallow to indistinct medially, often with medial section transverse (cephalotes group). Anterior border a very low step-like ridge; or indistinct, with the doublure poorly differentiated from the glabella in profile (cephalotes group). Glabellar ornament, if present, fine to medium sized granulation overprinting sparse, weakly defined tubercules; granulation densely distributed anteriorly, of variable density posteriorly and somewhat patchily distributed over entire exoskeleton, coarser on axial areas. Hypostome with long posterior border exhibiting a shallow supplementary furrow and median projection. Pygidium narrow, proportions as for cephalon, axis inflated, pleurae weakly to moderately convex. Anteriormost pleural furrow deeply incised, successive furrows markedly shallower, 4 ~ furrow very shallow to indistinct on external surface. Interpleural furrows extremely shallow but perceptible. Exoskeleton generally thick, giving the furrows a markedly shallower appearance than on internal moulds.
