Taxonomy
Platycleis was named by Fieber (1853). It is extant. It is the type genus of Platyclees.

It was assigned to Decticinae by Zeuner (1939), Harz (1967) and Harz (1969); to Tettigoniidae by Carpenter (1992); to Platycleidini by Garai (2010); and to Tettigoniinae by Mugleston et al. (2018).
