Lipotactes was named by Brunner von Wattenwyl (1898). It is extant. It is the type genus of Lipotactini.
It was assigned to Tympanophorinae by Zeuner (1936), Zeuner (1939); to Tettigoniidae by Carpenter (1992); to Lipotactini by Gorochov (2010); and to Lipotactinae by Mugleston et al. (2018).
