Gelasene was named by Palmer (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Sepkoski's reference number: 475]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Edelsteinaspididae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Trilobita by Sepkoski (2002).
