Taxonomy
Probnis fossor was named by Aristov (2004). Its type specimen is NMMNH P-36578, a forewing (forewing without apex), and it is an impression. Its type locality is NMMNH L-3433; Carrizo Arroyo, which is in an Asselian pond mudstone in the Bursum Formation of New Mexico.
