Coptotermes was named by Wasmann (1896). It is extant.
It was assigned to Rhinotermitidae by Carpenter (1992), Solórzano Kraemer (2007); to Coptotermitinae by Snyder (1949), Nel and Paicheler (1993), Krishna and Grimaldi (2009), Krishna et al. (2013); and to Heterotermitidae by Hellemans et al. (2024).
It was assigned to Rhinotermitidae by Carpenter (1992), Solórzano Kraemer (2007); to Coptotermitinae by Snyder (1949), Nel and Paicheler (1993), Krishna and Grimaldi (2009), Krishna et al. (2013); and to Heterotermitidae by Hellemans et al. (2024).
