Chthamalus was named by Ranzani (1817) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Chthamalidae, Chthamaloidea.
It was assigned to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Chthamalidae by McLaughlin et al. (2005), Chan et al. (2021).
