Hexelasma was named by Lang et al. (1940) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Hexelasmatinae.
It was assigned to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); to Bathylasmatidae by McLaughlin et al. (2005); to Pachylasmatidae by Jones (2007), Chan et al. (2010); and to Hexelasmatinae by Chan et al. (2021).
