Tithonomyia atra
Taxonomy
Protophthiria atra was named by Melander (1949). Its type specimen is USNM 112552, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant (USNM Collection), which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado. It is the type species of Tithonomyia.
It was recombined as Tithonomyia atra by Evenhuis (1984), Evenhuis and Greathead (1999).
