Taxonomy
Acanthocarpus was named by Stimpson (1871) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R]. It is extant. Its type is Acanthocarpus xanthioides.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Calappidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Luque et al. (2017), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2019), Feldmann et al. (2019).
