Caloneura was named by Brongniart (1885).

It was assigned to Caloneuridae by Handlirsch (1906), Handlirsch (1919), Handlirsch (1922), Bolton (1925), Carpenter (1961); and to Caloneurodea by Béthoux et al. (2004).

Confusio was named by Handlirsch (1919). Its type is Homaloneura royeri.

It was synonymized subjectively with Caloneura by Carpenter (1961).

It was assigned to Protorthoptera by Handlirsch (1919); and to Caloneuridae by Handlirsch (1922).
