Taxonomy
Coptotermes hirsutus was named by Krishna and Grimaldi (2009). Its type specimen is AMNH No. PB-278, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (AMNH coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
