Truxalis was named by Fabricius (1775). It is extant. It is the type genus of Truxalinae.

It was assigned to Ulonata by Fabricius (1775); to Orthoptera by Latreille (1796); to Acrydiana by Latreille (1802); and to Truxalini by Garai (2010).
