Taxonomy
Cancer serratus was named by Forskål (1775). It is extant. It is the type species of Scylla.

It was recombined as Scylla serratus by Schweitzer et al. (2006); it was recombined as Scylla serrata by Karasawa (1993), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
