Taxonomy
Lupocyclus was named by Adams and White (1848). It is extant. It is the type genus of Lupocyclinae.

It was assigned to Portuninae by Karasawa (1993); to Podophthalmidae by Collins et al. (2003); to Portunidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Lupocyclinae by Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2021).
