Taxonomy
Portunus cribrarius was named by Lamarck (1818). It is extant. It is the type species of Arenaeus.

It was recombined as Arenaeus cribrarius by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Luque et al. (2017), Schweitzer et al. (2021).
