Taxonomy
Laevicarcinus was named by Lorenthey (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m T Plio]. It is not extant. Its type is Laevicarcinus egerensis.

It was assigned to Xanthidae by Muller and Collins (1991); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Panopeidae by Tessier et al. (2011), Beschin et al. (2015) and Beschin et al. (2016); and to Panopeinae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
