Thalamita was named by Latreille (1829). It is extant. Its type is Cancer admete. It is the type genus of Thalamitinae.
It was assigned to Lupinae by Dana (1851); to Portuninae by Müller (1984), Karasawa (1993); to Portunidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Thalamitinae by Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2021).
