this species was originally assigned to the genus Panopeus but it was later reassigned to the current genus
Taxonomy
Panopeus kempi was named by Quayle and Collins (1981). Its type specimen is BMNH In.61724, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lee-on-the-Solent, Elmore Formation, Unit 7, which is in a Lutetian marginal marine claystone/claystone in the Elmore Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Sereneopeus.
It was recombined as Sereneopeus kempi by Collins (2002), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
