Taxonomy
Glyptoxanthus was named by Milne-Edwards (1879). It is extant. It is the type genus of Glyptoxanthinae.

It was assigned to Xanthidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); to Euxanthinae by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Glyptoxanthinae by Schweitzer et al. (2021).
