Mycetoporus was named by Mannerheim (1830). It is extant. It is the type genus of Mycetoporini.
It was assigned to Staphylinidae by Scudder (1900), Wickham (1912); to Tachyporini by Hatch (1957); to Mycetoporini by Herman (2001), Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Mycetoporinae by Yamamoto (2021).
