Taxonomy
Orphilus was named by Erichson (1846). It is extant. It is the type genus of Orphilinae, Orphilini.

It was assigned to Dermestidae by Wickham (1912); to Orphilinae by Háva (2004), Zhou et al. (2022); and to Orphilini by Háva and Prokop (2004), Zahradník and Háva (2014), Háva (2015), Legalov et al. (2025).
