Taxonomy
Serica was named by MacLeay (1819). It is extant. Its type is Scarabaeus brunnus. It is the type genus of Sericidae, Sericina.

It was assigned to Scarabaeidae by Wickham (1912), Miller et al. (1981); to Sericinae by Krell (2000); to Sericina by Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Sericini by Allsopp and Schoolmeesters (2024).
