Anaphothrips intermedius was named by Schliephake (1999). Its type specimen is Hoffeins 307/2, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Isle of Usedom, Baltic Amber, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Germany.
