Taxonomy
Sauropleura remex was named by Cope (1868). Its type specimen is AMNH 6907 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.
It was recombined as Oestocephalus remex by Cope (1869) and Hay (1902); it was recombined as Ctenerpeton remex by Carroll et al. (1998).
