Perlariopsis was named by Ping (1928). Its type is Perlariopsis peipiaoensis. It is the type genus of Perlariopseidae.
It was assigned to Perlaria by Ping (1928); to Perlariopseidae by Sinitshenkova (1985), Sinitshenkova (1987); and to Taeniopterygidae by Carpenter (1992).
