Drepanepteryx was named by Leach (1815). It is extant. It is the type genus of Drepanepteryginae.
It was assigned to Hemerobiidae by Nel (1991), Makarkin (1991); and to Drepanepteryginae by Oswald (1993), Garzón-Orduña et al. (2016), Makarkin et al. (2016).
