Kamopanorpa grossa was named by Novokshonov (1993). Its type specimen is PIN 3695/3, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Galevo (Kostovaty, PIN collection 3695), which is in a Wordian terrestrial siliciclastic in the Russian Federation.
