Taxonomy
Archimastax americanus was named by Handlirsch (1906). Its type specimen is USNM 38711, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Lemons Coal Bank, near Fayetteville, which is in a Morrowan terrestrial shale/coal in the Bloyd Shale Formation of Arkansas.
