Coelonella was named by Stewart (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras-l P l Sepkoski's reference number: ZR89]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Coelonellidae by Yi (1990) and Forel (2018).
