Cornigella was named by Warthin (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2,136]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Beyrichiidae by Harlton (1933); to Nodellinae by Khivintseva (1969); to Aechminellidae by Benson et al. (1961), Tilman (1984), Hoare and Mapes (2000); and to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
