Cryptovenia moyseyi was named by Bolton (1912). It is an impression. Its type locality is Shipley Manor (Digby) Claypit, which is in a Westphalian B delta plain claystone in the Middle Coal Measures Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Cryptovenia.
