Taxonomy
Hymenopterites deperditus was named by Heer (1870). Its type specimen is Nat. Riks Ar 46, a tegmen, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Cap Staratschin, which is in a Danian/Selandian delta plain shale in the Firkanten Formation of Svalbard and Jan Mayen.
It was considered a nomen vanum by Birket-Smith (1977).
